Chateau Beau-Site Saint-Estephe 2016 |
This Saint-Estèphe comes in a pretty intense dark red color, filled with deep purples hues. Yes, at the time of tasting (mid-2017) this is still a very young baby of a wine, and looks like it, youthful.
The nose is both lively and vibrant, bursting in intense ripe red berry aromas of juicy blackberry, and poignantly spicy and torrefacted. Licorice and dark toffee-like caramel marry black pepper, cinnamon and clove in frenzy of spicy aromas.
On the palate, the wine is dense and rich, but somewhat restrained and elegant in a typical North-Medoc fashion. There is ripe and warm red fruit flavors, the juicy blackberry again together with dark cherry and strawberry jam. Despite this world of richness and fruity goodness, it feels dry and rather savory from such bursting spices and torrefacted notes.
Dense and velvety tannins fill the palate in a world of smoothness, yet slightly drying to the finish. While the body is round, mouth-filling yet elegant.
