Chapter 24 Pinot Noir Fire & Flood The Fire 2014 |
Medium to deep ruby-purple in color, the 2014 The Fire is fairly reduced on the nose to begin, giving way with aeration to black fruits with earthy aromas of forest floor, mushroom, charcuterie and tree bark plus underlying hints of spice and dried flowers. The palate is medium to full-bodied, more giving than the nose, with layers of beautifully ripe black fruits and earthy notions of turned soil.
Expressive and polished, with a lively and complex core of black raspberry, orange zest and spiced tea flavors that build richness toward refined tannins. This has great firm, structuring tannins and freshness, finishing long, juicy and delicious.

Flood was substituted for Fire at the last minute
Chateau was unable to locate six bottles of The Fire and I agreed to let them substitute six bottles of The Flood (the blue label). This is not nearly as good as The Fire and, worse, two of the bottles were corked and not drinkable. Very disappointed with this order. Unfortunately there is little of The Fire 2014 available and the 2015 vintage is not as good. Oh well…..

Oregon burgundy
This is one of the best US pinot noir efforts. Stylish yet strong enough to hold up to most entrees. Nice to see Oregon producers making a more burgundian style. I am sold on this one...
