The best that Catena has to offer.

Nicolas Catena Zapata is made from a plant-by-plant selection of historic rows in the Catena Zapata vineyards.  This wine is made from over 200 separate micro-vinifications representing different rows, altitudes, and harvest times. The wine is aged in French oak barrels for 24 months and an additional 24 in the bottle before release.

95 Points Wine Advocate -  Catena Zapata Nicolas Catena Zapata Mendoza 2009
"The 2009 Zapata is from selected vines marked by a red sash in order to raise the wine with meticulous care. It is 10% whole cluster and 90% whole berry fruit that is aged in 80% new French oak for 24 months. It is pieced together from a mind-boggling 210 separate row micro-vinifications of multifarious lots and harvest times and is a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Malbec. It has a spellbinding bouquet that exudes minerality, as if crushed stones had been sprinkled into the black fruit. With continued aeration, there are scents of oyster shell and black olive. The palate is full-bodied, with immense structure and backbone. The acidity is beautifully judged with filigree tannins that render the finish so elegant and refined, with notes of blackberry, soy, black plum and that stony aftertaste. Magnificent. Drink 2014-2035."

95 Points Wine Advocate -  Catena Zapata Nicolas Catena Zapata Mendoza 2010
"Doctor Nicolas Catena always liked Cabernet Sauvignon so the wine that carries his name has a greater percentage of the noble Bordeaux grape. The 2010 Nicolas Catena Zapata is a blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon and 25% Malbec sourced from La Piramide, Domingo, Adrianna and Nicasia. The fresh and balanced 2010 produced good ripeness of the fruit but the acidity was also great and the wine finished with 6.5 grams of acidity and a natural pH of 3.5, as the grapes are selected from cold soils. The first vintage was 1997, but this has to be one of their finest. This has the intensity of the Catena Alta Cabernet and the verticality and austerity of the Adrianna Malbec. It has very good acidity and intensity, while it has some velvety tannins. For a minute I was trying to remember the varietals as the sense of place, the freshness and the earthy sensations clearly take over. A superb bottle of wine. This is a wine to age. Drink 2016-2023."

96 Points Tim Atkin, 95 Points -  Catena Zapata Nicolas Catena Zapata Mendoza 2011
"Consistently among the best red blends in Argentina, and a wine that ages brilliantly, this cuvée includes only 25% Malbec this year, partly because the Agrelo Cabernet was so good in 2012….it’s a finely balanced wine that combines the two grapes to perfection, with notes of graphite, cassis, blueberry and subtle oak underpinned by plenty of structure and concentration."

Nice selection

I purchased this wine to hold for 3-5 years. I’m sure it will be superb then! Fast service and nice wooden box.
