Escabeces is an orange wine made by René Barbier, Sara Pérez, Mercè Salvat and Oriol Pérez de Tudela. Escabeces is a wine made with the Cartoixà Vermell variety, which is the name for Xarel·lo Rojo in the area. This is a historical variety from the Gayá river area, in the province of Tarragona in the town of Vilavella.
Escabeces is a unique wine, not only because of the variety used but also because it has been made as an aged red wine: it is fermented with the skins of the grapes in contact with the must and then aged in barrels and in clay amphorae. Only 5,000 bottles of this unique wine are produced. Escabeces is a unique, interesting wine that will surprise you.
