Carlos Serres Rioja Old Vines Tempranillo 2014 |
Top 100 Wines
94 Points James Suckling
Carlos Serres Old Vines DOC Rioja Tempranillo is made from 50 year old vines giving this Spanish red intense flavours of dark fruit. Aged in oak Barrels with a bright purple colour and a nose full of fresh cherries, black fruit, licorice and vanilla. In the mouth it is juicy and tightly focused, with fresh acidity and a smooth lengthy finish backed up with gentle tannins.
Well structured and complex floral nose with dark fruits as well as vanilla spice. Complex, well-balanced while fresh and fruity.

First of all, when I ordered this wine it was listed as 2014. The invoice I received also listed it as 2014 but I received 2015 so my review is for the 2015. This wine had 94 Points James Suckling rating. I think a rating of 85 would be more appropriate. I think this wine is thin and does not display any of the characteristics I have come to expect form a quality Rioja wine. I have toyed with the idea of returning this wine but this seems too much of a hassle. I will keep this wine and hope it will improve after a stay in my cellar. I welcome comments from anyone that has bought this wine. Thank you.
