• Heirloom corn whiskey produced in Cuicatlán, Oaxaca • Fifth-generation Maestro Destilador Alex Krassel • Made from 100% malted local heirloom blue corn • Open-air fermented in wooden tanks made from local pine • Distilled twice in an alembic copper pot still • Aged for a minimum 3 years in refill American oak barrels • Earthy corn husk, grilled mushroom, carrot, papaya, and waves of petting zoo aromatics precede a bright palate anchored by grilled corn with notes of ripe mango, gouda, watermelon seed, broccoli, and cheese-filled tamal • No added coloring • Non-chill filtered; 45% ABV Azul is a deep dive exploration into Milpa’s Oaxacan heirloom blue corn using a natural malting process wherein the corn is malted similarly to barley in a dark, humid room for three days, allowing the natural enzymes to transform starch to sugar. The resulting whiskey is confoundingly complex—a true celebration of its prized agricultural base product and one of the most unique whiskeys available.
