Amalaya Blanco de Corte 2016 |
Salta is to Torrontés as Mendoza is to Malbec - the grapes' spiritual home. The altitude here (one mile above sea level!) causes a temperature fall and thus preserves the aromatics in this most aromatic of grape varieties. A hint of Riesling tones it down slightly but this is still a full-flavoured white wine with aromas of citrus and grapefruit typical of Torrontes and a touch of minerality. Delicate and silky on the palate with great freshness and crisp acidity on the distinctly mineral finish.
TASTING NOTES:
This crisp, refreshing wine catches your attention with a lovely bright yellow color with a hint of green at the edges. Subtle, layered aromas and flavors of apple, grapefruit, melon and honeysuckle are enhanced by floral notes and a touch of bracing minerality. Wonderful any time of the year, this wine is a perfect companion for spring and summer dishes such as fruit salads, poached or grilled fish, prawns and delicate scallops.
