IT'S ALL IN THE DETAILS

James Suckling 96 points - This is a unique wine for Mendoza with a cool-fruit and serious slate character. Undertones of dried herbs and bark. Full body, integrated fruit and tannins. Wet earth, too. Reminds me of the reds in Spain’s Galicia, but so new in Argentina. Drink now but better in 2020..March/2018

Robert Parker's 94 Points

Vinous 90 points - (from a selection of stony soils on this 42-hectare property; vinified with 100% whole clusters--vs. 30% to 70% for Zuccardi’s other reds--and aged entirely in concrete): Saturated bright, dark ruby. Very pure aromas of dark fruits and flowers; great Malbec fruit without any make-up. Then plush, sweet and pristine on the palate, conveying the full ripeness of the 2017 vintage in its almost chocolatey ripeness. The wine’s broad tannins reach the incisors. Finishes with lingering notes of red and black fruits and spices. This wine is done in a Burgundy bottle..July/2018

The Zuccardi wines I tasted in April were consistently superb and the estate’s top wines are among the finest being made in Argentina today. Zuccardi owns several prime sites in Uco Valley, including their two highest vineyards in Gualtallary and San Pablo, both of them rich in calcaire. Like some of his colleagues who are seeking to preserve terroir differences in their various wines, Sebastian Zuccardi vinifies mostly in concrete tanks and eggs, and also makes extensive use of concrete and used foudres to age his wine. He told me that he hasn’t purchased any new barriques in the past four years. The Zuccardi wines are hardly cheap but they are well worth seeking out. - From Argentina’s Wines Enter the World Stage (Jul 2018) by Stephen Tanzer

Zuccardi expressed through each of its wines, the essence of their origin, the unique and perfect combination of climate, soil, altitude and human work. Each line of Zuccardi wines represents a concept, a belief, a tribute, is the true expression of the vineyard where it was conceived.

100% Malbec from a small parcel of very shallow calcerous-drive soils. The wine is fermented and aged in unlined concrete vats, mostly eggs. 50% of the wine is fermented with whole clusters. The resulting wine has a deep red color with violet hues.

An Easy Way to Buy Wine

I searched online for several different wineries and specific vintages and found the best price, the best shipping (free with my case purchase) and no tax. My only complaint was having to be present when delivery was made. I know: it’s the law.
