Grey Single Block Cabernet Sauvignon 2018 |
93 points James Suckling / 92 Points Tim Atkins Very focused aromas of sweet tobacco, violets and blackcurrants. Full body. Creamy, refined tannins show berry and chocolate character on the palate. Really well crafted.
91 points Wine Advocate As I did with the Carmenere, I also tasted two vintages of the Cabernet Sauvignon, and the 2018 Grey Cabernet Sauvignon also shows a little more restraint and austerity than the 2019 I tasted next to it. But in this case, the two vintages show more similarities. Both wines show varietal notes and the stony minerality of the soils from Maipo where the grapes grow.
90 points Vinous The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Grey also contains Petit Verdot (4%) and Cabernet Franc (3%) from Maipo and is aged for 18 months in French oak barrels. The nose offers cassis, currant, herbs, woody cigar box aromas and hints of vanilla and mint. Juicy and indulgent; the firm tannins structure the mouthfeel, leavened by the precise freshness.
Ventisquero is one of Chile’s most diverse and dynamic wine estates with vineyard sites in each of the country’s most established regions, but its story is one of dogged, bootstrapped determination and vision. From a single planting of Cabernet to becoming one of Chile’s largest estates two decades later, Ventisquero has blazed an enviable trail. Talented winemakers benefit from the tutelage of Australia’s inimitable John Duval in making quintessential wines of place.
