Salcheto is an organic estate in Montepulciano, the Tuscan hill town that gives Vino Nobile its name. Salco is the estate's top Vino Nobile, made from Sangiovese, which locals call Prugnolo Gentile.
Vino Nobile sits between Chianti Classico and Brunello in style: savory and structured, with Sangiovese's bright acidity. Expect sour cherry, plum, dried herbs and some earth, with firm, fine tannins. With a few years behind it, the 2018 should be starting to show savory, leathery notes alongside the fruit.
Decant for 30 to 60 minutes and serve around 62-64F in a large red wine glass. It's built for Tuscan food: pasta with ragù, grilled steak, roast pork, wild boar or aged Pecorino. A great bottle for anyone who loves Brunello but wants something a little different.
