Échezeaux is one of the grand cru vineyards of Burgundy's Côte de Nuits, sitting just above Clos de Vougeot and next door to Vosne-Romanée. Mongeard-Mugneret is a family domaine in Vosne-Romanée that has made wine from this site for generations.
Grand cru means the top tier of Burgundy's vineyard ranking, and Échezeaux is known for Pinot Noir that is perfumed and silky rather than heavy. Expect red and black cherry, raspberry, floral notes and some spice, with fine tannins and a long finish. A young 2022 will show a lot of fruit now and gain more savory depth with time in the cellar.
If you open it soon, decant it for an hour and serve around 60-62F in a wide Burgundy glass. Roast duck, mushrooms, lamb or a simple roast chicken all work. It's a special-occasion bottle and a good one for a collector to lay down.
