Aglianico from Irpinia, inland from Naples, where the altitude and volcanic soils make the grape as long-lived as anything in Italy. Mastroberardino kept it alive when almost nobody else would. Cherry, crushed violet and small red fruit over medicinal herb, Earl Grey and mocha. Full bodied, firm chalky tannins, high acidity, a long finish. Taurasi of this kind can run for decades.
