Krug Grande Cuvée is not a vintage Champagne, and it's not a standard non-vintage either. Each Édition is built from a large library of reserve wines from many different years, and this is the 172nd Édition.
Krug treats every vineyard plot as its own wine and keeps them separate until blending, which is a big part of why Grande Cuvée tastes so layered. The house style is rich and full, with long aging in bottle before release. Expect toasted brioche, hazelnut, citrus and honey, with fine bubbles and a long, savory finish. It's one of the most complete Champagnes made.
Serve it cool, around 50F, in a white wine glass rather than a flute so the aromas have room. It works with far more than toasts: try it with lobster, roast chicken, aged Parmesan or even fried food. For a Champagne lover, this is close to the top of the list.
