Deep scarlet in color. Aromas of blackberry, and ripe cherry liquor lend a dark fruit aroma to this wine, followed by more complex layers of cedar, black pepper, and freshly cut hay. The pallet has finely knit tannins with notes of black cherry and sweet herbs. This wine has beautiful balance with good structure. The long finish leaves hints of dark coca on the palate. Our goal with Merlot is to showcase the best of this noble and important Bordeaux variety. We have found that we truly enjoy the blending of the Merlot from Oak Knoll and Carneros. The renowned subdistrict of Oak Knoll lends the plush mid-palate and generous weight and texture and we find so enticing in Merlot. It also lends a dark fruit aroma. The cooler growing region of Carneros allows the more nuanced aromas of Merlot to shine. Carneros Merlot is full of floral perfume, with hints of sweet dried herb. Their smooth and soft texture blends perfectly with the more robust Oak Knoll Merlot lots. From these vineyards the Merlot shows vibrant flavors, dense color, and supple texture. Each vineyard block is made separately, giving it the care and attention needed to reach its full expression. Together, the lots combine beautifully. Our Merlot is often called a “Cab-lovers” Merlot for its body and richness, a designation we are proud of.
