Tasting Notes
A pretty golden color, this elegant sparkling wine offers pretty aromas of green apple, Alpine flowers and just ripe berry and white stone fruits. The finish is lifted by a streak of minerality.
Established in the 14th century, the estate is managed by Eugene, his son Olivier and his son-in-law Sebastien. The Carrel vineyards are planted to the traditional varieties of the region: Jacquere (sold as Vin de Savoie Jongieux Banc), Altesse (aka Rousette de Savoie), Gamay and Mondeuse.
Wine maker notes
The vineyards are planted on steep, southwest facing slopes at an altitude of 1,476 feet to calcareous clay soils. Despite proximity to the Swiss Alps, the climate is surprisingly warm; Jongieux enjoys 2-3 more hours of sun than any other area in the Savoie. As a consequence the fruit reaches phenolic ripeness, so there is less need to chapitalize.
Technical notes
80% Chardonnay, 20% Jacquere Produced using the methode traditionelle process, the fruit was hand-picked and gently pressed. The Chardonnay was fermented at cool temperatures during which the Jacquere was added. Malolactic was blocked and the base wine aged in tanks sur lie for several months before it was lightly filtered and bottled. The bottles remained in the family’s cellar for 18 months before release.
