The Frank web site indicates this wine is off-dry, with .5% residual sugar. Don’t believe it. The Dr. Konstantin Frank “Barrel Fermented” Chardonnay (Finger Lakes, NY) $15 2013 [Good] is medium dry at best, and may even be in the “sweet” category. The aromas of this wine are attractive, and the flavors have some substance, but excessive sugar makes the wine tiresome after a glass or two. Frank’s Salmon Run Chardonnay 2013 is a cheaper, better, more honest wine.

Medium lemon in color, the nose is attractive, with waxy/creamy apple/pineapple fruit inflected by notes of citrus and spice. Medium to full bodied, medium dry to sweet, the KF has good acidity. Bright flavors of peach and pineapple have a good dash of citrus and lesser contributions of spice and cream. At first, the flavors are strongly reminiscent of peach pie, but with additional sips the wine becomes cloying, more like pineapple-y fruit juice. Some ragged oaky notes emerge in the medium-long finish. June 2015

Note: This wine did not hold up well overnight. Drink it in one sitting.
