DESCRIPTION
Montelena was founded north of Calistoga in 1882 and is best known for winning the white wine class at the Judgment of Paris in 1976. The Cabernet is aged up to twenty-two months in oak, only a fifth to a quarter of it new, which shows in the style. Violets, cedar and red raspberry with cherry and redcurrant, chalky rather than angular tannins, and an elegant, restrained finish.
