Chateau de Saint Cosme is one of the reference estates of Gigondas, in the southern Rhône. The 2023 Gigondas comes from old vines that average around 60 years, farmed organically.
It is mostly Grenache, with Mourvèdre and Syrah and a drop of Cinsault. Grenache brings red fruit and that potpourri perfume. Here you also get intense blackberry and fig, with licorice, violets and a charcoal note on the finish. For a wine from such a warm, sunny place, it stays remarkably fresh and fine. It is a big wine with good manners.
This is the 1.5L magnum, which ages more slowly than a standard bottle and looks great on a dinner table. Decant it an hour ahead and serve around 60-64F. Pour it with leg of lamb, beef stew, grilled sausages or a roast with herbs. A good bottle for a holiday dinner or a crowd.
