Léoville Poyferré is a second growth in Saint-Julien, run by the Cuvelier family. The 2018 was #7 in Wine Spectator's Top 100 of 2021, and Jeb Dunnuck gave it a perfect score.
Cabernet Sauvignon leads, with Merlot and a little Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. It's dense and full-bodied: crème de cassis, blackberry and plum, with violets, tobacco, cedar and a mocha edge. For all that power it still feels fresh and fine-grained.
It's young. If you open one now, decant it for two hours and serve it around 62-64F with a ribeye, lamb chops or a hard aged cheese. Better still, put a few bottles away; critics expect it to drink well for decades. A collector's bottle at a fair price for the vintage.
