Cellier des Princes is a growers' cooperative in the southern Rhône, and this is its red Châteauneuf-du-Pape. It's one of the most famous appellations in France, known for warm, generous reds built mostly on Grenache.
Expect the classic Châteauneuf style: ripe red and black fruit, a touch of spice and dried herbs (the locals call it garrigue), and a round, warm palate with soft tannins. It's a big, friendly red, not a hard one.
Serve it around 60-64F. It's very good with roast lamb, beef stew, sausages and hearty bean dishes. Châteauneuf-du-Pape can get expensive quickly, so this is a sensible way to put a bottle from the appellation on the table.
