Farnito is Carpineto's line of Tuscan wines made from grapes that aren't traditional to the region, and this one is Cabernet Sauvignon. Carpineto is better known for Chianti Classico and Vino Nobile, so this is the house showing what it can do with a Bordeaux variety in Tuscan soil.
Ruby red with an orange rim. The nose brings cherry, licorice, vanilla and spice. It's full and rich in the mouth, with firm, polished tannins and a long finish. Think of it as Cabernet with an Italian accent: more savory and less jammy than most New World versions.
Serve around 62-64F in a large glass, and open it half an hour ahead. Good with grilled steak, lamb chops or aged pecorino. At this price it's an easy bottle for a weeknight steak dinner.
