Brut Reserve RD, Gobelsburg 2008 |
Creamy, lemony chalkiness on the nose promises a serious wine, with some age. The slender palate comes in with tiny bubbles of creamy foam, dancing against a yeasty, chalky, stony backdrop. They release notions of lemon and honey, contradictory notions that create drama, richness and freshness. The finish is creamy, intense with chalkiness, long and dry.
The SCHLOSS GOBELSBURG VINTAGE is only produced in special years. The bottles remain on the lees for at least 10 years before they are riddled by hand and disgorged. This sparkling is produced from three varieties (Pinot Noir, Riesling, Grüner Veltliner) selected from different sites of the estate. Grapes from Heiligenstein, Gaisberg, Grub and Lamm are harvested at the right moment, laid in small boxes and are immediately pressed. After six months of élevage in cask, it is bottled. It then rests for about three years on the lees until it is hand riddled and then disgorged.
