Antigal UNO Malbec 2024

Well, Antigal Malbec is good but is a 90 pts. It would be good to get a 95 pts also!!!

This wine, as well as the wine Chateau has never disappointed me. I have been a repeat customer for years.

This is a 2020 Malbec by Antigal from Mendoza. This will be a table-style wine of French (historically) grapes but somewhat changed due to growth in a different climate. I wanted to invite readers' attention that the WE listing on my bottle states "2019 90 points". Now this does not change why or for what purpose I bought this.

For the wine itself: I smell iron and crushed acidic red fruit like unripe red plum, poss. unripe Italian prune-plum, sour cherries. Mostly dry with a neutral palate (not all that fruity and just bordering on "hot" -- it is quite dominant (13.9% alc).

I made the mistake of having this with a salt-forward Italian pasta (carbonara heavy on the pork product). If you love Bordeaux with everything, this might be a good companion but my mistake that I didn't follow a well-known sommelier who suggested chianti for such a dish, as this is no chianti. It's rich

It would indeed go with a great dish of boeuf bourguignon, even coq au vin when made with red wine, and even leek soup on a red wine base (and I make these French style homey dishes) or even a quickly sautee'd chop. Deglaze with this and bring the rest to the table with a pat of butter to melt on top of your plate and enjoy). Now, would I smackdown a chateaubriand? No! This will go with it, and a Brazilian steak dish, and a modest braised chuck roast or even London broil and burgers. For this wine, let your inner carnivore be your guide. That said, no regrets. This is like a warm hug with a plate of lasagna, as well.

Decent price for a gorgeously intense ruby wine with beautiful acidity, great for black pepper steak au poivre, dry but it will intensify the pepper bite. Sorry, just had to put that last meat delight in there before I say: buy, but shop for value pricing.

No cork issue here. Thought the cork was very young.

Also a suggestion for thrifty enthusiasts and wine students is to find independent wine retailers at big box warehouses. Mine was bought from an independent wine retailer exactly in the same block-and-mortar location next door to Costco at $13.99 and I"ve seen online this same wine priced less than $13.00 flat.

Have opened 6 out of 12 bottles so far, and in every instance the cork crumbled completely. Unacceptable.

This wine is as described; smooth with essence of dark berries. We enjoyed our first bottle and are glad we ordered more.
