DESCRIPTION

Slivovitz is plum brandy, and Hungary is one of the countries that takes it most seriously. Zwack, the family company best known for Unicum, makes this one, and it is certified kosher.

Pale amber in the glass. The nose is light and fruity, with fresh plum. The palate is bold and full-bodied: plum first, a hint of cherry, then a spicy warmth that lingers. It's a real brandy, not a sweet liqueur, so expect some heat.

In Central Europe it's poured as a small shot before or after a meal, often to toast. Serve it at room temperature or lightly chilled in a small glass. It's a natural for Passover and holiday tables, and good after a heavy dinner of roast meat or goulash.
