Domaine Weinbach is one of the leading family estates of Alsace, run by the Faller family in Kaysersberg. Altenbourg is a site at the foot of the Grand Cru Furstentum, and Gewurztraminer is the grape Alsace does better than anywhere else.
Gewurztraminer is all about perfume. Expect rose petals, lychee, ginger and exotic spice, with a rich, round palate. Weinbach wines are known for balance, so the richness comes with freshness rather than heaviness.
Serve it chilled, around 50F. It's one of the best wines for food that's hard to pair: Thai, Indian or Moroccan dishes, smoked fish and strong cheeses like Munster. A good bottle for anyone who finds most white wines too neutral.
