Rully is a village in Burgundy's Côte Chalonnaise, just south of the famous Côte d'Or, and it's one of the best places to find good white Burgundy at a fair price. This Vieilles Vignes bottling from Vincent Girardin comes from older vines.
It's Chardonnay in the classic Burgundy style: medium-bodied, juicy and vibrant, with a solid line of acidity and a touch of chalky minerality. Expect citrus, green apple and pear, and a long, lively finish. It's not a heavy, buttery Chardonnay, which is exactly the point.
Serve it chilled, around 50F, in a white wine glass. It's great with roast chicken, grilled fish, scallops, creamy pasta or goat cheese. A smart everyday white Burgundy, and an easy step up for people who like Chablis.
