Oloroso sherry steals the show at that first, sublime wave. The nose is full and well spiced, somewhere an orange peel has been flamed by a cocktail barman. An intense start and it doesn’t end with the nose. The palate is very full. This is certainly Macallan. Intense without being abrasive, with honeyed notes and good texture, at times there are crushed grapes. It is quite clean in the mouth before a well-fruited finish, espresso, a dusting of chocolate.
Macallan 30 Year Old was matured in Spanish oak casks which were handmade and seasoned with sherry in Jerez, Spain.
A famous old expression of The Macallan 30 year old, matured entirely in sherry oak casks. This was the last edition of the sherried 30yo before the introduction of the Fine Oak series, and also the last 30yo before Macallan revamped their bottle shape and packaging, ditching the wooden boxes for 25yo and 30yo.
