DESCRIPTION
"Double Cask" is Macallan's way of saying two kinds of oak, both seasoned with sherry. European oak brings dried fruit and spice. American oak brings vanilla, citrus and a softer sweetness. Eighteen years in those casks, then the two are married.
It's the gentler, brighter side of Macallan 18. Toffee, ginger and orange peel on the nose. Raisins and sultanas, caramel and vanilla in the mouth, with enough citrus to keep it lively and oak spice that builds slowly. The finish comes back to ginger and sweet orange and stays a while.
Neat, or with a few drops of water to open the fruit. Good with dark chocolate, Christmas cake or a cheese board. An 18-year-old Macallan is a serious gift, and this is the friendliest way in.
