The Dalmore is the Highland distillery with the stag on every bottle. King Alexander III is its most unusual whisky: the producer says it's the only single malt in the world to use six different cask finishes, from bourbon, oloroso sherry, Madeira, Marsala, port and Cabernet Sauvignon barrels.
All those casks add up to a lot going on. Caramel, toffee and red berries on the nose, with fresh flowers and a puff of smoke. The palate is robust and velvety: cocoa, dark chocolate, citrus zest, vanilla and crème caramel. The finish is dry and complex, with tea, leather, cigar wrapper and sweet spice.
Pour it neat and give it time in the glass; it changes as it opens. Try it with dark chocolate, or after dinner with a cigar. A strong gift for the whisky drinker who likes something different.
