Seghesio has grown Zinfandel in Sonoma County for more than a century. Cortina comes mainly from Chen's Vineyard in Dry Creek Valley, planted in 1972 by Ted Seghesio and his father Ed, and the wine is named after the gravelly Cortina loam in that vineyard.
Morning fog and afternoon breezes give the grapes a long, even ripening season. The 2023 is 100% Zinfandel. Expect ripe blackberry and raspberry, black pepper and spice, with more structure than the winery's broader Sonoma County bottling. If you think Zinfandel is always jammy, this single-site Dry Creek bottle may change your mind.
Serve it at 60-64F in a large red wine glass. It is very good with barbecue ribs, grilled sausages, pizza and burgers. Open it 30 minutes ahead if you can.
