Barone Ricasoli is one of the oldest wine estates in Italy, centered on the Castello di Brolio in the Chianti Classico hills of Tuscany. Bettino Ricasoli, who ran the estate in the 19th century, is credited with the first written formula for Chianti. Brolio Riserva is the estate's step up from its regular Chianti Classico.
The 2022 is 100% Sangiovese, according to Wine Advocate, and the Riserva lots spend longer in oak tonneaux than the regular wine. Wine Spectator describes plum, cherry, earth, olive and bay leaf with bright acidity, and James Suckling notes smoke, graphite, leather and dried cherry with refined tannins. It is classic Chianti Classico with real depth, and a strong bottle for the price.
Open it 30 minutes ahead and serve at 60-64F in a large red wine glass. Pour it with bistecca alla fiorentina, pappardelle with wild boar ragu, roast pork or aged Pecorino.
