DESCRIPTION
Ribera del Duero sits on a high, dry plateau along the Duero river in northern Spain, and it makes some of the country's most powerful reds. Bodegas Portia is one of the region's modern wineries.
The grape here is Tempranillo, which locals call Tinto Fino. Crianza means the wine spent time in oak and in bottle before release. Expect blackberry and plum, a little vanilla and toast from the barrel, and firm but ripe tannins. Solid, not flashy.
Serve it around 60-64F in a red wine glass. It's made for grilled meat: lamb chops, steak, chorizo or a burger, and it's good with Manchego. An easy weeknight red that tastes like more than it costs.
