Mount Veeder is one of the mountain appellations of Napa Valley, on the western ridge above the valley floor. Vines there grow on steep, thin soils, and the wines tend to be firm and concentrated. Mount Veeder Winery's Reserve is its top red blend.
Expect black currant and dark cherry, with the structure that mountain fruit is known for. Mountain Napa reds usually have more grip and more savory depth than valley-floor wines, so give this one some air.
Decant it for an hour and serve around 62-64F in a large glass. Grilled ribeye, braised short ribs or roast pork are good matches, and it's also fine with a hard cheese and good bread. A bottle for people who like their Napa Cabernet with backbone.
