DESCRIPTION
Maximin Grunhaus is the von Schubert family estate on the Ruwer, a small side valley of the Mosel, centered on a former monastic manor house at the foot of its hill. Herrenberg is its largest vineyard, about 19 hectares of slate, and this is its Grosses Gewachs, the top dry Riesling from that site.
The 2023 is bottled at 12% alcohol. Vinous described it as shimmering with greengage plum and a touch of smoke, and the Herrenberg usually shows wet slate, lemon zest and a salty, mineral finish. It is a serious dry Riesling that drinks well now and will be better with a few years in the cellar.
Serve it at 50-54F in a white wine glass, and give it some air if you open it young. Try it with trout, roast pork, chicken in cream sauce, or Thai and Vietnamese dishes.
