DESCRIPTION
This lightly sparkling white comes from vineyards on the east side of the province of Vicenza in the Veneto, in the foothills of the Alps. The vines are more than 30 years old, on volcanic and limestone soils, and the growers farm sustainably with grasses and flowers left between the rows. The Sofia Brescia name honors earlier generations of growers, many of them women whose names history left out.
It is made from Glera, the Prosecco grape, and Garganega, the grape of Soave. Frizzante means gently sparkling, so expect a light spritz in the glass rather than big bubbles. Citrus, Asian pear, acacia honey and jasmine show on the nose and palate, with a touch of sea salt at the end. Fresh and easy.
Serve it well chilled, around 42 to 45°F, in a white wine glass or flute. It is a natural aperitif, and it pairs with ravioli with sea scallops, creamed mushrooms, a tomato and basil salad, or Italian almond cookies.
