Le Salette is a family winery in Valpolicella Classico, the historic heart of Amarone country in the hills north of Verona. La Marega is its Amarone from a single site, and this is the 2019.
Amarone is made from grapes that are dried for months before pressing, mostly Corvina with Rondinella and other local varieties. The drying concentrates everything. Expect dark cherry, plum and raisin, with cocoa, spice and a full, rich body. It's powerful and warming, but finishes dry.
Open it an hour or two ahead and serve around 62-64F in a large glass. It's made for slow-cooked beef, braised short ribs, game, or a wedge of aged Parmigiano or Monte Veronese. It's also a wine you can sip by itself after dinner. A good choice for anyone who loves big, rich reds.
