Georgia has one of the oldest winemaking traditions in the world, and it makes brandy in the classic way too. This XO from Kakhuri Gvinis Marani is distilled from Georgian wines and aged in oak barrels for over ten years.
It's dark amber with a bright glow. Expect oak, vanilla and chocolate, with a soft texture and a gentle, lingering finish. It's smooth and easy, not fiery, which is what ten years in wood buys you.
Sip it neat in a tulip glass or a snifter, or with a single ice cube. It's good after dinner with dark chocolate, walnuts or dried fruit. At this price it's a fun bottle for a cognac drinker who likes to try something new.
