Joseph Mellot is one of the old family houses of the Loire Valley, based in Sancerre. La Chatellenie is its Sancerre from the 2025 vintage.
Sancerre is Sauvignon Blanc grown on chalk, flint and limestone in the eastern Loire. Expect citrus, green apple and gooseberry, with a fresh herbal edge and the flinty, mineral finish the appellation is known for. It is crisp and clean, never heavy. Young Sancerre like this is all about freshness, so there is no reason to cellar it.
Serve it cold, around 46-50F. The classic match is goat cheese, especially the local Crottin de Chavignol, but it is also great with oysters, grilled fish, salads and sushi. A young, fresh Sancerre to drink now.
