DESCRIPTION

Charles Jacquin et Cie has been making liqueurs in Philadelphia since 1884, and its factory there still turns out a long list of cordials and brandies along with its well-known eggnog. Rock and rye is an old American bar style: rye whiskey sweetened with rock candy and flavored with fruit.

Jacquin's version comes in a wide-necked bottle with pieces of fruit inside the liqueur. Expect a sweet, citrusy, lightly spiced drink with the grain of rye underneath. It is an old-fashioned, unpretentious bottle.

Sip it over ice with a twist of orange, or warm a little with hot water and lemon as a toddy. It also makes a quick, sweeter Old Fashioned.
