Hennessy Paradis sits near the top of the Hennessy range. It's blended from rare, very old eaux-de-vie by the Fillioux family, Hennessy's master blenders for seven generations, and it is all about finesse rather than power.

The nose is layered: baked pear and apple pastry, walnut, roasted chestnut and maple, with dried rose petals. On the palate it is firm, semisweet and gently spicy, with a silky texture. The finish brings rancio, caramel, a hint of pepper and brown sugar, and it goes on and on.

Pour a small measure neat into a tulip glass, let it sit for ten minutes, and take your time. It needs nothing else, though a square of dark chocolate is welcome. This 700ml bottle is a once-in-a-while cognac, and a gift for a moment that really matters.

This is Paradis in the silver/gold type box. Best cognac I have every had. I thought it wouldn't live to the hype but this is better than the domanian reserve de familia I also ordered for more expense. Simply sublime. If it was $200 a bottle I would buy cases!
