Grgich Hills is the Napa winery of Mike Grgich, whose Chardonnay famously beat the French at the 1976 Judgment of Paris. This estate Cabernet Sauvignon comes mainly from organically farmed vineyards in Rutherford and Yountville.
It's a classic Napa Cabernet that resists modern trends in favor of structure and elegance. Expect blackcurrant, black cherry and plum, with cedar, a little dried herb and firm, fine tannins. It's balanced rather than overripe.
Serve it around 62-65F in a large red wine glass; give it some air first. It's great with steak, lamb or aged cheddar. The 375ml half bottle is the right size for two, or for trying a classic without opening a full bottle.
