DESCRIPTION
Gramona is a family winery in Penedès, near Barcelona, and one of the founders of Corpinnat, a group that left the Cava appellation to set stricter rules for organic farming and long aging. Imperial is its classic traditional-method sparkling wine.
It's made like Champagne, with a second fermentation in the bottle, and it spends a long time on the lees before release. The result is fresh, round, creamy and balanced. Expect apple, pear, citrus and brioche, with real body and roundness for a sparkler at this price.
Serve it cold, around 45-48F, in a white wine glass or a tulip glass. It's great with tapas, jamón, fried seafood, sushi or a cheese board. For a lot of people it's the best-value alternative to vintage Champagne, and it shows.
