The 25-year-old is the oldest whisky in The Glenrothes' Soleo Collection. The Speyside distillery is known for its sherry casks, and this one was matured mostly in first-fill sherry oak. It took the Chairman's Trophy at the 2018 Ultimate Spirits Challenge.
Pineapple, mango, malt and nutmeg on the nose. The palate is richly sherried and muscular: caramel, citrus, licorice and wood tannin. The finish is long and drying, with sherry-soaked old oak. Glenrothes at its best.
Pour a small measure neat, at room temperature, and let it sit a few minutes. A drop of water is fine. It's a bottle for a milestone, or a serious gift for a whisky lover who already owns the usual names.
