Wine Enthusiast 90 points - Ripe berry aromas are a bit raisiny, with vanilla and balsam wood notes. This Tempranillo feels blocky, saturated and tannic. Flavors of raisin, prune, blackberry and wood spice are full and bullish, while a boundary-pushing finish maintains a palpable raisiny quality. Drink through 2020..Michael Schachner, April/2017
Made from selected grapes grown on very old vines, over 70 years’ old, planted in soils consisting of 50 cms of stone on top of a chalky-clay subsoil. These vines crown the heights overlooking the Pisuerga Valley, at an altitude of 790 metres, just a few kilometres outside Valladolid. Yields are only between 1,000 and 2,500 kg/hectare, with short pruning and the spreading of organic matter as fertiliser, or in a nutshell, we continue to cultivate the vines just the way our ancestors always did. These characteristics, combined with a harsh climate, big contrasts between daytime and night temperatures in summer and long, very cold winters with heavy spring frosts, enable our grapes to achieve a state of health and alcoholic and phenolic ripeness which are tantamount to perfect.
