Chateau de la Figuiere is a Provence estate run by the Combard family at La Londe-les-Maures, near the coast opposite the Hyeres islands. Mediterranee is its entry-level range, made from carefully chosen grapes that the estate buys in, and labeled IGP Mediterranee.
The blend is Grenache, Cinsault, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. The juice spends only two to three hours on the skins, which gives the pale melon color. The importer notes peach, orange peel and white flowers with fresh acidity and a salty edge. It is a dry, pale Provence-style rose at a fair everyday price, and a good one to buy by the case for summer.
Serve it cold, around 45-50F, in a white wine glass. It works with grilled shrimp, salade nicoise, goat cheese, sushi or just a bowl of olives on the porch.
