FEW Spirits makes its whiskey from grain to glass in Evanston, Illinois. This Bottled in Bond Bourbon uses the classic FEW mash bill of 70% corn, 20% rye and 10% malted barley.
Bottled in Bond is a legal standard: the whiskey is from one distillery and one distilling season, aged at least four years in a bonded warehouse, and bottled at 100 proof. FEW ages it in new charred American oak. Expect caramel and vanilla from the corn and oak, a peppery kick from the rye, and a warm, full finish.
At 100 proof it has plenty of flavor, so try it neat first, then with a few drops of water or one large ice cube. It's also excellent in an Old Fashioned or a Manhattan, where the proof keeps it from getting lost. A good bottle for anyone exploring craft bourbon beyond Kentucky.
