Etude is a Napa-based winery best known for cool-climate wines from Carneros, the windy region where Napa and Sonoma meet San Pablo Bay. This is its Pinot Gris from the 2019 vintage.
Expect a bright, aromatic white with guava, kiwi, passion fruit and lychee, supported by apricot, Meyer lemon and kaffir lime and a chalky minerality. It is fresh and lively, with more fruit and perfume than a typical Pinot Grigio. Carneros' cool fog and wind keep the acidity bright, which is what lets all that fruit feel lively instead of heavy.
Serve it chilled, around 48F. It is great with Thai or Vietnamese food, ceviche, shrimp, grilled fish or a goat cheese salad. A fun bottle for anyone who likes aromatic whites.
