Elena Walch is one of the leading estates in Alto Adige, Italy's northernmost wine region. This Lagrein comes exclusively from the Castel Ringberg vineyard, grown on warm southeast- and southwest-facing slopes with calcareous clay and sand.
Lagrein is a native red grape of the region. Expect deep color, dark berries and plum, with notes of cocoa and spice, clear fruit and balanced acidity. The Riserva has extra barrel aging, which adds depth and smooths the tannins.
Serve it around 60-62F. It goes well with game, speck, grilled sausages, roast pork and mushroom dishes. A good discovery for red wine drinkers who want something new that still tastes rich and familiar.
