Donnafugata is one of Sicily's best-known wineries, and Sul Vulcano is its wine from Mount Etna. The vines grow on the volcano's black, mineral soils, high enough that the nights stay cool even in a hot Sicilian summer.
Etna Rosso is mostly Nerello Mascalese, a grape that is often compared to Pinot Noir. The color is a light ruby, and the nose brings strawberry and black cherry with notes of cardamom, star anise and a fresh, balsamic lift. It is lighter and more delicate than most southern Italian reds.
Serve it slightly cool, around 58-60F. Pour it with tuna, swordfish, mushroom risotto, pizza or roast pork. A great pick for people who like elegant reds.
