Domaine Tariquet is a family estate in Gascony, in southwest France, and one of the best-known names in Armagnac. Armagnac is France's oldest brandy, and it usually has more rustic character than cognac.
XO means long aging in oak. Expect dried plum and apricot, toffee, vanilla and warm spice, with the fuller, earthier style Armagnac is known for. It's rich and long, with a little more grip than a cognac of the same age.
Serve it neat at room temperature in a tulip glass and let it breathe for a few minutes. It's very good after dinner with dark chocolate, prunes, walnuts or a cigar. If you like cognac and want to try something with a bit more personality, this is a good place to start, and it's often better value.
